CASHIER STAND WORKER

Job Summary
The San Mateo County Event Center is a public assembly facility which hosts a wide variety of events and produces the San Mateo County Fair, and operates the Jockey Club, a satellite wagering facility for horseracing as well as Creative Touch Catering, a full service catering and food service operation. The cashier is responsible for operating the POS/Cash register in multiple locations to ensure an accurate and smooth flow of customer traffic.

Hourly Rate:  $14.33
Essential Functions/Responsibilities 
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Greets guests in a courteous and friendly manner. Answer and engage in customer service orientated conversations related to, but not exclusively, products/menus, events and facilities. 
  • Respond appropriately to customer complaints.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of products/menus and be able to answer specific questions including describing the products/menus.
  • Promote and up-sell products/menus to increase sales revenue.
  • Inputs orders into a register at point of sale and create a receipt for a cash or credit card transaction
  • Verifies validity of charges, receives payment from guests (cash, credit card, voucher), and when cash is tendered, refund back any change. 
  • Maintain register and register area in a clean and organized manner.
  • Follow all cash handling policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Must have experience handling cash and credit card transactions
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and under pressure. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with management, co-workers, clients and customers using principles of good customer service.
  • Possess a positive attitude, work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Requires being responsible, reliable and dependable to fulfill job obligations. 
  • Work long and irregular hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Requirements
Include education, experience, and licenses or certifications required.

Any combination of education, experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the responsibilities of this position. One year of cashier experience. High school diploma or equivalent. 

ServSafe or TIPS Certified or ability to become ServSafe or TIPS Certified.

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver's license and current automobile insurance.

Ability to pass a criminal background check.

May be exposed to grease, smoke, fumes, solvents, chemicals, heat and sharp objects. Must be able to speak, hear and see. Vision requirements are close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
